Have you ever caught yourself wondering if people just did this, the world would be a better place? Or if people just stop doing that, things would be different. Well, yes… There definitely are things that happen that leave us thinking if only that didn’t happen.

However, what if we started applying this thinking in our own lives? In our everyday moments and actions? Surely, the world would be different?

It’s easy to name and call out things that other people do around us or what they should be doing.  Are we considering what we should be doing to positively influence our environment? It’s not only about the big change-making decisions and actions, but also about the mundane ones, the ones we do without much thought, but sometimes, the mundane for you is something special and life-changing for others.

Think back to a moment or day when things were challenging for you. Imagine, on that same day you had the most pleasant service experience which shifted your whole perspective, or you saw someone caring for your city in a way you have never seen before. Imagine the joy and the encouragement that could come from that one moment.

On the other hand, think about the joy and encouragement you could bring to someone else by doing something small and seemingly insignificant. It’s a bit of a cliche, but it’s powerful – be the change you want to see.

Doing things, the right way matters. Making your bed in the morning matters. It helps set you on a path of accomplishment and shows you that even a simple task such as that has the opportunity to change your thinking for the day.

The more and more we practice doing something with this kind of attitude, the more we become a part of the change we want to see in this world and that surely can only lead to a better place for us all.

Furthermore, the more change we embody and set into motion, the more likely others will do the same, changing their ways of thinking and acting better. If you stop littering, others might stop too.  If you provide excellent services, others might too.  If you obeyed traffic laws, others might too.  If you started recycling, others might too.  If you volunteered your time to the community, others might too.

Don’t you want in on that type of world? We do, so let’s start by making our bed every morning, and the worst that could happen is if we have a really bad day, we have a neat bed to get into in the evening to reset for the next day!!
